Top Tips For Keeping Your Tee Tip Top

I’m not one of those guys that considers piloting a washing machine akin to captaining the space shuttle, although I admit in the past I have been guilty of liberally applying washing liquid across all the available trays, opting for the comforting option of a mixed load and hoping for the best.

But now that we’ve started Lit Tees I’ve been paying more attention to taking care of my Tees so that they last longer – because I love our Tees and, in the interest of quality control, I’ve got lots of them. So, here’s what I’ve learnt about taking care of your Tee – and in particular, the Gildan 64000 which our designs are printed on.

How to Care for and Wash Your Gildan 64000 T-Shirt
The Gildan 64000 Softstyle T-shirt is a popular choice for many Tee shirt businesses because of its lightweight feel, soft cotton fabric, and versatility – and with the right washing and drying techniques, you can significantly extend the life of your T-shirt and keep it looking fresh

To keep your Tee in Tip Top shape:

Understanding the Fabric
•    The Gildan 64000 is typically made from 100% ring-spun cotton 
•    Some heather variants containing polyester blends 
•    Ring-spun cotton is softer and more durable than regular cotton
•    As a natural fibre, it can shrink or fade if exposed to high heat or harsh washing

Washing
•    Turn inside out before washing to protect the outer surface
•    Use cold water and a gentle cycle 
•    Choose a mild detergent rather than a heavy-duty one
•    Avoid using bleach unless absolutely necessary
•    Group similar colours together

Drying 
•    Air drying helps maintain shape and softness
•    Hang it on a clothesline or lay flat on a clean surface to dry naturally. 
•    If using a dryer, opt for a low heat and remove promptly from the dryer 

Ironing and Storage
•    Use a low to medium heat setting 
•    Always iron inside out
•    Alternatively, you can use a steamer for a gentler approach
•    For storage, fold your T-shirt neatly and keep it in a cool, dry place. 
•    Hanging is also fine, but can stretch Tee if left on hangers for long periods

Extra Care Tips
•    Avoid over-washing your T-shirt. 
•    Steer clear of fabric softeners—they can leave residue and reduce breathability.

So, that’s the low down – and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be giving advice on washing and ironing. Not because I’ve never done it, I am a modern man after all, but because no-one has ever asked! But by following these tips, your Gildan 64000 T-shirt will stay soft, comfortable, and well-fitting for many wears to come.
