Standard or Premium? It’s all down to taste

We're really excited to launch our new Premium T Shirt range and thought a blog would be a great way to explain the difference between our go-to soft style Standard Tee and our new heavyweight Premium Tees

Here at Lit-Tees we spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about T-shirts. Which is slightly worrying, because when we started this business our main areas of expertise were beer, pubs and coming up with funny things to put on T-shirts. But here we are.

And, what we’ve been thinking about since we launched our new premium range is how to explain the difference between our Standard Gildan 64000 Tee and the Premium Comfort Colors 1717?

So, here goes… imagine you’re standing at the bar.

The Gildan 64000 is your favourite, go-to pint. Reliable, reasonably priced, does exactly what you want it to do and you’d happily order another one.

The Comfort Colors 1717 is the pint that comes in its own slightly fancy glass and costs a bit more… but you take a sip and think, ‘Blimey, I can see why it costs a little more.’

Let’s dig down deeper.

First up: the Gildan 64000

The Gildan 64000 Softstyle has been our go-to Tee for a reason.

It’s made using soft ring-spun cotton and has a modern, classic fit. It’s relatively lightweight, comfortable and has a nice smooth surface that takes a printed design brilliantly.

In other words, it’s an excellent everyday T-shirt.

It’s the sort of Tee you can throw on for the pub, a barbecue or a Sunday afternoon supposedly “doing jobs around the house” before somehow ending light and soft.  It’s basically the Goldilocks pint of T-shirts: not too much, not too little, just about right.

Then there’s the Comfort Colors 1717

This is where things get a little heavy.

The Comfort Colors 1717 is a heavyweight, 100% ring-spun cotton Tee with a more relaxed fit. It’s also garment dyed and washed during production, which gives it that softer, slightly lived-in feel you normally only get after owning a favourite T-shirt for several years.

Comfort Colors describes the idea rather nicely as making a new Tee feel as though you’ve loved it for years.

It’s thicker, more substantial and has that premium vintage-style look which has become increasingly popular.

And because the fabric is garment dyed, the colours tend to have a softer, slightly washed appearance rather than looking brand-spanking-new.

So which should you choose?

That really comes down to personal preference.

If you want a soft, lighter everyday Tee that’s comfortable all year round, our Standard Gildan 64000 is difficult to beat.

If you like your T-shirts thicker, slightly looser and with a more substantial premium feel, spend the extra few quid and go for the Comfort Colors 1717.

Neither is “better”.

It’s a bit like beer. Just about every pint is great, but sometimes you opt for the premium lager or craft IPA instead of your standard fare.

The important thing is that whichever Lit-Tee you choose, it will still have something suitably ridiculous written across the front.
And frankly, that’s the bit your mates are actually going to notice.
